SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ETHIOPIAN STUDENTS

FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Batonga Foundation Girls Scholarships

  • 12 girls who are AIDS orphans will receive support and scholarships for higher education. They are among more than 600 children who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and who are receiving community-based care and support through an Ethiopian NGO called Hope for Children. The 12 girls receiving Batonga scholarships for post-secondary school education will receive support for tuition, school supplies and mentoring.

Ambassadors Girls’ Scholarship Program (AGSP)

  • Adult Non Formal Education Association Ethiopia (ANFEAE) is a local NGOs which gives equal importance to the out-of-school children and adult literacy. Currently, it is reaching 4000 out-of-school children and 1500 adults with basic education and literacy in 30 ABE centers. ANFEAE works with 140 AGSP recipients in the Benishagul and Gambela regions.

Tumaini Scholarship for Vocational Training

  • Supports young people pursuing vocational training such as carpentry, tailoring, mechanics, masonry, etc. The goal of the program is to alleviate poverty by empowering youth and equipping them with the necessary skills to compete in the job market, reduce unemployment, and support their families.

FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Japanese Ministry of Education – Monbukagakusho

  • MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students or as research students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.
  • Only those who with ETHIOPIAN NATIONALITY may apply through the Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia.

York University

  • International Scholarship Program for Africa (4). VALUE: $100,000 ($25,000 x 4 years). Must be citizen of an African country. To renew — maintain high academic standing (7.8 on a 9-point York scale) in each academic year at York.

POSTGRADUATE – FELLOWSHIPS

National University of Ireland, Galway – International Scholarship Programme

  • provides a number of postgraduate scholarships for outstanding students from South Africa, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia, who wish to study at NUI Galway, who would otherwise be unable to finance their studies in Ireland.     Agriculture, mainly livestock production, is the mainstay of the Ethiopian economy employing approximately 85% of the total population. Livestock production accounts for approximately 30% of the total agricultural GDP and 16% of national foreign currency earnings (Lobago, 2007). Ethiopia has the largest livestock population and the highest draft animal population in the Africa. The livestock population of Ethiopia is estimated to be about 43,124,582 cattle, 28,721,633 seep, 18,559,730 goat, 1,655,383 equines, 616,396 camels and 33,199,484 poultry (CSA, 2006). Despite the huge resource, Ethiopia’s livestock productivity is lower than the Africa’s average. The major biological constraints contributing to low productivity include low genetic potential of the animals, poor nutrition and the prevailing animal diseases. The main effect of the diseases include mortality, sub optimal production, reduced quality of animal products such as milk and meat, decreased drought power output, and risk of zoonotic diseases to man. One of the strategies haled by the Ethiopian government to reduce these livestock production problems is to increase the number of veterinarians in the country which was surprisingly very few by establishing new veterinary schools. Wollega University, school of veterinary medicine is among this newly established veterinary schools. In this veterinary school there is scarcity of well trained and specialized teachers, which is now becoming a serious problem in the school, For this reason, I am much interested in getting a scholarship in related fields for advanced teaching learning process and to produce well trained and qualified veterinarians who have a potential of solving the countries livestock disease problems.

    - Less awareness in gender equity
    - Less development in technical and interpersonal skills necessary for managers
    - Less stimulate and encourage managerial and entrepreneur initiatives.
    - Less understand and can adapt to the changing global environment
    - -Lack of equipped person to contribute to an organization and communication strategy.
    I faced in my intervention area many other developmental problems. For this to be solved, it is vital to have skilled and educated personnel on the field.
    With the interest to be part of the solution, I am searching for an opportunity to arm my self with the education that the field needs.
    Hence, I was applied to the University of London South Bank (UK).
    And I am very glad to inform you that I have been an unconditionally accepted to the university’s on MSc International Business program that will be commenced 22nd of September 2010 for the 2010/11 academic period.

After the four years of study at the University of Unity I graduated in 2004 in Management Information Systems with the Major in Information Technology and Minor in Management and Accounting.     As a student I took this Master’s program as a great opportunity to further my carrier.

    I am confident that with my strong will to give my best to everything I undertake and never compromise with modesty I can contribute a valuable part to my country.
