1. STRATHMORE

  • is a private, independent, boys’ day school located in Nairobi, Kenya that follows the 8-4-4 curriculum.
  • Strathmore was started as a Sixth Form college in March 1961. In 1977 the first Form One students were admitted, and in 1987 the first Standard One pupils.
  • Today, there are around 630 students in the school with a significant number of them receiving financial aid.

4. St Mary’s Boys School

  • is an independent day school owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi.It was founded in Parklands, Nairobi in September 1939.
  • In 1946 the school was moved to a temporary structure on an 85-acre site on the land of St Austin’s Mission in the Muthangari area of Westlands.The present school building was completed in 1954.
  • From the beginning, St Mary’s is a combined preparatory (primary) and secondary school. Once admitted a boy or girl can advance up to university entrance examinations.
  • Girls are admitted to the International Baccalaureate Course. The school enrollment averages 1400. The school year runs from January November.

6. Kianda School

  • Kianda Foundation opened Kianda School as a result of numerous requests from past students of Kianda College. The School started in 1977 with 40 students, and now has a capacity for 900. It is a day school for girls with a Primary and Secondary section. The School has ranked among the top 10 schools in the Kenya Certificate of Seconday Education(KCSE) examination.
  • The School fosters a close working relationship between parents, teachers and students. Special courses on parenting  enrich this relationship.
  • Bursaries are granted to academically outstanding children whose parents cannot afford the school fees.
  • In line with the school motto, ‘In Opere et Veritate’ (In deed and truth), Kianda School strives to produce hard working and responsible young ladies who try to achieve excellence in all fields of their development.

  • The Secondary section (the Academy) of the Makini Schools came into being as a result of pressure from primary school parents. When started in 1996, it was for boys only but in 1997 the school also admitted girls. It is a now a mixed day school based on Makindi Road, off Ngong Road, Nairobi. It follows the 8-4-4 system which is the Kenya National Curriculum. Optional subjects include Art, Computers and French.
