3. St. Mary’s Kisubi

  • Founded by Catholic Church after the Catholic Chiefs who under the leadership of Stanislas Mugwanya raised the question of higher education for Catholic youths at the beginning of 1899, and their request was laid for consideration by the August Assembly of the White Fathers’ General Chapter at Algiers in 1900, and was duly. Established in 1906, St Mary’s College Kisubi is a boys’ only, boarding school with an enrollment of 954 students.

  • “Namilyango College a boys only boarding school located in Mukono district is one of the oldest Secondary School in Uganda” The school was founded on 23rd March 1902 by the Mill Hill Missionary Fathers
  • The school was started with a two-fold purpose; totrain Catechists needed for evangelisation; to educate sons of Chiefs. The aims and objectives of the school were summarized in the motto ‘Education for Responsibility’ which was adopted to guide the students and teachers alike.

  • Founded in March 1906, Kings College Buddo stands as a symbol of excellence and success in the Ugandan academic system. Over the years, Buddo has been able to perfect the art of educating as well as building individuals who have gone on to be important personalities in whatever offices they take up in life.

7. Gayaza High School

  • Christian missionaries founded Gayaza as a School in 1905. The school began in January 1905 with four girls and by July 1905, the number had grown to 43 girls. The purpose was to train girls especially the daughters of chiefs in those skills that would make them better wives. This was the only basis of security approval from the traditional and traditionalist leaders of that time. The founders however had a different motive, to educate girls based on strong Christian foundation. They realised that the best way of entrenching Christianity was by having Christian mothers under whom children spent all their formative years.
