APPEAL FOR SCHOLARSHIP
Hello! My name is Smart Fundi and I am 40 years old. I became a Christian on 28th August, 1984. I am in the full time Christian work serving the Lord as a Pastor and Church Planter in the Southern Province of Zambia. I have been offered a place at Moorlands Bible training College in England and I am here by appealing for your support in terms of Scholarship to enable me be in the College by September, 2010. Before I continue allow me to share to you my background, my involvement with the Lord as well as the area where the Lord has called me to serve Him.
Before the Lord called me into full time Christian work, I was working for Luapula Insurance Company as an Insurance Clerk. Although I was in a secular job I did not have the peace of mind because my greatest desire was to reach out to the people with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, in the year 1998, I bade fare well to my employers as well as my work mates and embarked on a journey leaving behind my monthly salary. However, this was received with mixed feelings from both my workmates and relatives.
In view of the harvest which is plenty, I felt the call to serve the Lord in the Southern Province of Zambia. I was commended to the work by the Elders at Mansa chapel in 2001. Before I continue, allow me to give you a brief back ground of Southern Province of Zambia.
Religious land scope – The region is predominantly on Seventh Adventist territory: three out five of the people are SDA faithful. The second largest group is the Roman Catholic who have an added advantage of their community radio station which airs out their programs in Tonga and English Languages. The New Apostolic seems to be next in line while a number of Muslims are also growing in the region due to their support to poverty stricken people. There are other denominations which include some few Pentecostals and evangelical Churches but their efforts are still lagging behind the four major forces mentioned above.
Unfortunately, many church leaders from these few main line and Pentecostal churches have not been adequately trained to discipline and lead their congregation to maturity. Many believers combine their traditional beliefs with Christianity and very few have a daily personal relationship with the Lord.
Culture – The Tonga culture is steeped in witchcraft, ancestral worship and other occult practices many of which have formed part of their traditions. Polygamy is still practiced although it is usually the Chiefs, Headmen and other well to do people who are wealthy enough to support more than one family. Commitment to a marriage partner is not really considered a priority and HIV/AIDS claims the lives of many every month.
Monze Mission Chapel – Monze Mission Chapel was born out of the great need to reach out to the people in the Southern Province with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ even as there is the great need of the true biblical Christianity to permeate in the region. Our first vision as the Church is church planting in all the major towns of the region and then move on to the remote areas of the province. Since the Church was established in 2001, the Lord has helped us to plant seven more assemblies.
As a full time Christian worker, I have not only been involved in church planting but the Lord has also continued to use me to give Bible teachings as well as training Church leaders in the region. My great desire is to see to it that believers and church leaders in particular are adequately trained and disciplined and be able to lead their local churches to maturity. MY AIM OF TRAINING CHURCH LEADERS IS TO HELP BELIEVERS TO AVOID THE TREND OF COMBINING TRADITIONAL BELIEFS WITH CHRISTIANITY SO THAT IN THE FINAL ANALYSIS MANY BELIEVERS MAY DEVELOP A DAILY PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD.I have also been involved in teaching in seminars and conferences. Often time I have been doing door to door and open air preaching in public places such as markets and bus stops etc as well as distributing Gospel tracts which have brought many souls into His Kingdom.
It is my greatest desire and prayers that when I am trained at Moorlands I will be able come back and serve Gods people in the Southern Province. As a full time Christian worker, one of my greatest challenges that I do face in my labour for the Lord is the lack of training. In order for me to be more effective in my labor for the Lord and to preach without compromising the word of God, there is a great need for me to undergo training.
I am glad that I have been offered a place at Moorlands Bible Training College in England. The college opens in September, 2010. However, I am now faced with another great challenge of resources to enable me to be in the college by September, 2010. Currently, I am unable to raise the required fees.
Therefore, I am here kindly making my humble appeal Brothers and Sisters for your support in terms of SCHOLARSHIP. I can assure you that when I am trained its all to the Glory of God and for the advancement of His Kingdom here on earth even as we see the Glorious Day of our Lord drawing nearer.
