By Samuel

Just like every other African country, Ethiopia faces the challenge of having many students who qualify for secondary school but are unable to raise the money required for school fees. Below is a list of the top 5 Ethiopia secondary school scholarships that these students can apply for.

5. Mercy Corps

  • Mercy Corps is an international organization that operates in Ethiopia’s most remote regions, assisting girls who live in those regions to get a secondary school education.
  • These girls are given scholarships to join secondary school, as well as academic support. As a result, the recipients are able to explore all the opportunities that come along with a good education.

4. Child Fund International

  • Child Fund International improves access to education in Ethiopia by increasing the capacity in schools and expanding school libraries. This organization also sponsors schools and ensures that tutorial support is available for the children who attend these schools.
  • This organization also focuses on parent and caregiver education with the aim of giving the child the best education possible. Parents and caregivers are educated on the best ways to teach children and foster development in other areas that would affect their education.

3. Ethiopian Education Foundation

  • Next on the list of top 5 Ethiopia Secondary School Scholarships is the Ethiopian Education Foundation. Since 2004, this foundation has provided secondary and tertiary education scholarships to underprivileged, academically talented and highly motivated students in Ethiopia.
  • The foundation selects promising and deserving students from different parts of the country and settles them in safe places where they can live as they concentrate on their studies. The students are then sent to good schools where their performance and attendance is monitored, and where they can receive mentoring and support.
  • Recipients of these scholarships are motivated and equipped with skills that will help them face their future with a transformational attitude.

2. Sandford International School

  • Sandford International School gives full scholarships to deserving secondary school students.
  • Since this scholarship program was started 10 years ago, 60 students have been able to graduate from Sandford, having gone through their secondary school education on full scholarships.
  • Sandford International School is located on Shewareged Gedle Street, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

1. International Community School, Addis Ababa

  • The International Community School has been offering scholarships to its students since 1964.
  • Currently, this school offers merit scholarships to local Ethiopian students who are entering Grade 9. These scholarships are based on merit and are need-blind.
  • Every year, 4 students from schools around Addis Ababa benefit from this scholarship opportunity. These recipients are usually high achieving students who are about to begin Grade 9.
  • This merit scholarship covers full tuition for the 4 years of high school at International Community School.
  • The school is located on Mauritania Street, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
