  • Makerere University entered a partnership with MasterCard Foundation to offer scholarships to 1,000 academically bright but economically disadvantaged youth from Africa to study at Makerere University from 2013 to 2023. This is a project worth US $ 20,989,965.15 implemented at Makerere University with the aim of developing the next generation of African Leaders and also to promote the strategic objectives of Makerere University and MasterCard Foundation in contributing to Africa’s higher education sector and development. The project is implemented under the leadership of the Makerere University Gender Mainstreaming Directorate.

What does the scholarship cover?

The Program offers comprehensive student support, that include;

  1. Tuition and Functional fees
  2.  Accommodation, Feeding and stipend
  3. Laptop, books and other learning materials
  4. Transport to and from home
  5. Medical insurance
  6. Psychosocial support and mentoring of scholars
  7. Capacity building program for life skills development in ICT, Leadership, Gender, Human Rights, Communication, Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy.
How many scholarships are given?
  • The MasterCard Foundation Scholars at Makerere University will have six cohorts of Scholars with the first cohort of 50 Scholars beginning 2014/2015 Academic Year.

  • Uganda
  • Sub-Saharan Africa
Am I Eligible to Apply?
  1. Both female and male students who are qualified for first year undergraduate admission to Makerere University.
  2. Economically disadvantaged students from African Countries.
  3. Academic Excellence, with more points scored for students admitted for science disciplines
  4. A person with leadership experience or potential.
  5. Demonstrate Commitment to give back to the community.
  6. A person who is admitted on the basis of Uganda Certificate of Education results or its equivalent.

    you guys have to wait and apply in the university and get admitted first. when you get admitted, they will advertise then only then will you apply for the mastercard scholarships. you will go through screening and later they will announce the winners who will later be told what to do from there. You guys just have to wait and pray you get admitted in makerere because its only in makerere/mubs

    am all smiles to come across this scholarship program at makerere . completed my secondary study and performed better than before ; all the same it weren’t easy on the side of school fees issues and am willing to continue for higher education but my parents are unable to pay tution and cater for me at cumpass if there is any opportunity help me out this misery GOD BLESS YOU ALL FOR THIS PROGRAM

I am good researcher in mathematics and pharmacy I have already published three article two in mathematics and one in pharmacy and still am in active researh so help to make my dreams true and. am young of 25 years old I have three theorems called in my name as Gabriel’s theorem you can have from google. but to contribute more I need to have education opportunities to serve more my country and my continent. But my great problem is the economical disadvantage am from very poor family who can support me for educational budget even my monthly income is only of 900 nakfa which means of about 25 dollars. sorry to tell that but am so greedy to become the professor of pharmacy or mathematics. thank you my dear people of blessed Idea.
