  • Be above 18 years of age and should not have reached your 26th birthday by the closing date of application.
  • Have already applied for a full-time undergraduate on-campus program at a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius for the academic year starting in 2021.
  • Have completed secondary schooling and satisfied the minimum grade requirements as indicated below:
    • At least 21 points at GCE or HSC A-Level which will be computed based on the following grades obtained in three Principal subjects: A+=10, A=9, B=8, C=7 & D=6; OR
    • At least an overall average of 60% or an overall average of 12/20; OR
    • A qualification equivalent to (i) or (ii) above.
  • Provide a valid TOEFL test result with a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based) or valid IELTS test results with a minimum score of 5.5 or acceptable proof of English Language proficiency. This applies to cases where the language of instruction in the qualifying examination is not English.

How Do I Apply – Next Steps

  • Apply for at least one full-time on-campus program at a public HEI of your choice. This application must be made as soon as the HEIs have opened their application windows on their respective websites. After application, you should either obtain a conditional offer (letter of admission) from your chosen Mauritian public HEI and submit this along with the scholarship application, or submit an acknowledgment notice from a Mauritian public HEI indicating that the application has been made and the appropriate application fee has been paid.
  • Submit the completed Mauritius-Africa Scholarship Application Form along with documents to your Nominating Agency. This should be done by a deadline to be determined by the Nominating Agency and communicated to prospective applicants.
  • Submit the completed Application Form and certified copies of the required documents as part of your application to the local Nominating Agency.
  • Applications for the Scholarships are to be made to the Nominating Agency in the applicant’s country of origin and are NOT sent directly to Mauritius by the applicant. The Nominating Agency of the country of citizenship of the candidates, or the Ministry of Education, then transmits the application forms to Mauritius.
  • The Mauritian Ministry of Education will then issue the successful applicants with a Scholarship Agreement Form which is to be signed and submitted to the Mauritian Ministry of Education, upon appointment, within two (2) weeks of their arrival in Mauritius

NOTE:

  • The Nominating Agency is typically part of the Ministry of Education in the applicant’s home country.
  • All applications must be made exclusively through the Nominating Agency in the country of citizenship of the applicant, along with the necessary supporting documents.

Required Documents

  • Birth Certificate
  • Relevant educational certificates and transcripts
  • Medical certificate to be filled and stamped by a registered medical practitioner
  • Copy of passport biodata page, if available.

NOTE:

  • Incomplete or incorrect application forms will result in disqualification of the applicant
  • The applicant must sign the Declaration in Section 4 of the Application Form
  • Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts, if not in French or English, must be submitted along with a certified translation in one of these two languages
  • Applicants should indicate the titles of up to three (3) courses in an HEI, along with their course codes for which they have secured a place in the Application Form.

Closing Date

  •  30 April 2021 (electronic submission); 14th May 2021 (hard copies)
