10 Cape Reninsula University of Technology

  • It is the vision of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) to be at the heart of technology education and innovation in Africa.  Our mission is to develop and sustain an empowering environment where , through teaching, learning, research and scholarship our students and staff, in partnership with the community and industry, are able to create and apply knowledge that contributes to development.

9 University of Johannesburg

  • Unfortunately financial assistance is only available to permanent residents of South Africa. However, Merit bursaries are automatically awarded to deserving full-time international students from SADC-countries from their second year of study at the Kingsway Campus of UJ.
  • International students from the DFC and APB-campuses who have obtained excellent scores in their first year of study at UJ should apply for these merit bursaries.
  • All foreigners are eligible for Postgraduate bursaries and should apply for it.

8 University of Pretoria

  • From 2008, enrolled students with citizenship in SADC countries will be considered for UP undergraduate achievement bursaries provided they meet the criteria. For UP postgraduate bursaries non-South African citizens are also considered for awards.

7 University of the Western Cape

  • The University of the Western Cape is a national university, alert to its African and international context as it strives to be a place of quality, a place to grow. It is committed to excellence in teaching, learning and research, to nurturing the cultural diversity of South Africa, and to responding in critical and creative ways to the needs of a society in transition. Drawing on its proud experience in the liberation struggle, the university is aware of a distinctive academic role in helping build an equitable and dynamic society

6 University of Kwazulu Natal

  • was formed on 1 January 2004 as a result of the merger between the University of Durban-Westville and the University of Natal. The new university brings together the rich histories of both the former Universities.
  • A truly South African university that is academically excellent, innovative in research, critically engaged with society and demographically representative, redressing the disadvantages, inequities and imbalances of the past.

5 University of the Free State

  • Unfortunately the University does not offer financial support (bursaries, loans) for international students. Ensure that you have sufficient financial resources for the planned duration of your studies.

4 Rhodes University

  • No bursaries or loans are awarded by the University’s Bursaries Committee to foreign students and you should ensure that you have sufficient funds in your own country before leaving.
  • You should also make enquiries about possible financial assistance from within your own country.
  • Sometimes bursaries and scholarships are available for study in other countries. You should contact foreign embassies or funding agencies in your own country.

3 Stellenbosch University

  • The International Office promotes and supports the international academic mobility of staff and students through
  • Coordinating and facilitating of links with international organisations or institutions with an international character (e.g. DAAD, the diplomatic corps, foreign foundations);
  • Establishing and maintaining international inter-university relationships and cooperative partnerships;
  • Extensive visitors’ programmes for international visitors to the institution;
  • Financial and administrative support for visiting academics (e.g. particularly within agreements, Fulbright, post-docs)
  • An advisory service, bursaries, awards for foreign studies/research;

2 University of the Witwatersrand

  • If you are postgraduate, you may apply for the postgraduate merit award. Although the university does not offer any scholarships to undergraduate International students.

1 University of Cape Town

  • UCT endeavours to assist as many financially needy students as possible to enable them to pursue their academic ambitions. The university has committed significant funds for financial assistance to support financially needy students that meet the eligibility criteria. Applicants who wish to apply for financial aid should complete Section J of the Application for Admission to Study at UCT form in full.
