With the increasing number of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education graduates, there has been a need for more schools to be set up to accommodate them all. As a result, several private secondary schools that provide the same quality of education (if not better) as public secondary schools have been established. Below is a list of the top ten private secondary schools in 2018!

  1. Chemelil Sugar Academy
  • Located within the compound of Chemelil Sugar Company in Kisumu County, this academy has both a primary school and a secondary school.   • Strathmore School is a private, independent boys’ school offering the 844 curriculum. In March 1961, it was established as a sixth form college. In 1977, however, the first form one students were admitted, marking the school’s transition into a high school. The 600 students who attend this school annually receive an education based on Christian principles, with an emphasis on academic excellence and moral integrity. This school has been consistent in producing excellent grades in national examinations, and as a result, a large percentage of its graduates gain admission into higher education institutions.

  • This institution is located at Kabarak, approximately 20 kilometers from Nakuru town. It shares a compound with Kabarak primary school and Kabarak University. This private mixed boarding secondary school was started in 1979 by retired President Daniel Arap Moi, who had a vision of providing affordable secondary education to Kenyan students. It is currently ranked among Kenya’s top performing secondary schools, and is regarded as the top mixed school in Kenya.
