Scholarship Overview
- The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships are awarded to high-caliber students from non-EU/EEA countries to undertake full-time study in Ireland for one year.
- Under this initiative, 60 scholarships will be provided for one year of study at bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. levels to successful candidates who have been offered a place at an eligible Irish higher education institution.

Field(s) of Study
This scholarship applies to all fields of study under either of the following options:
- The final year of an undergraduate programme
- One year of a taught master’s degree programme
- One year of a research programme (i.e. one year of a 2-year research master’s or a 3-4-year PhD programme)
What does the scholarship cover?
- A stipend of €10,000 for one year of study
- A full fee waiver of all tuition and other registration costs at the higher education institution
How many scholarships are given?
- 60 scholarships will be provided for one year of study at either bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD levels
Which countries are targeted?
- Students from non-EU/EEA countries
Am I Eligible to Apply?
To qualify for this scholarship you must:
- Display academic, professional, personal, and creative excellence
- Have excellent communication skills
- Have a record of involvement in extracurricular activities e.g. arts, sports, politics(local, national, or international), or humanitarian work
- Possess a strong rationale for pursuing your study in Ireland that indicates how a GOI-IES fits into your longer-term goals.
How do I Apply – Next Steps
- Eligible students are invited to submit applications to the Higher Education Authority (HEA) via the official online application portal.
Required Documents
- Academic qualifications, achievements, and/or work experience
- Personal Statement, indicating how the applicant believes that becoming a GOI- IES Scholar will benefit them, Ireland, and their country of origin, how they will extend themselves beyond their project/studies to become actively involved in Irish society to maximize their academic/cultural exchange experience and to raise awareness of the GOI-IES scheme in Ireland and beyond, and how they will promote links with Ireland during their time as Scholars and also after as Alumni.
- Two references uploaded via the online application portal (please note that the HEA is not able to accept references submitted via email or other sources outside of the online application portal).
NOTE
- The above documents constitute key selection criteria which will be graded out of a total of 100 marks.
