- The Mwalimu Nyerere African Union Scholarship Scheme is intended to enable young Africans to study in reputable African universities on condition that they work in any African country for the same duration as the scholarship period after graduation.

What does the scholarship cover?
Recipients of this scholarship are entitled to:
- Tuition fees – as per the invoice provided by the university
- A stipend of US$500 per month to cater for living expenses such as food, housing, utilities, local transportation and medication
- A book allowance of US$500 per year to cover the purchase of books
- An economy fare round-trip air ticket, where applicable
- Travel allowance:
- A one-off payment of US$ 250 at the beginning of the course given to cater for settling-in costs and ground transportation.
- A second one-off payment of US$ 350 to assist with shipping and other terminal expenses.
- Computer allowance: Recipients receive a one-off payment of US$1000 for the purchase of a laptop or computer, and all the required accessories.

Am I Eligible To Apply?
To qualify for this scholarship, you must:
- Be a citizen of an African Union member state
- Be under 35 years
- Be a formally registered refugee/displaced person with a UNHCR registration number or be able to demonstrate confirmed refugee status in an African Union member state
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field, with at least an Upper Second Class Honors from a recognized university
- Have proof of admission to a full-time master’s program in a recognized university in an African Union member state
- Have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, with evidence shown via academic transcripts and academic awards
- Be willing to commit to working in an African Union member state for at least three years after completion of studies.
NOTE:
- No application will be considered without an official registration as a displaced person or refugee, and an admission letter from a university.

- A letter of motivation of not more than 500 words (or a maximum of two pages). In this letter, explain why you have chosen the particular field of study and its importance in African development.
