Our passion at Serve Africa is increase connections between Africans and the organizations and ministries that desire to make a difference. If you desire to make a difference in Africa here’s our Top Ten List of things to remember as you prepare to serve:
- THE SOLUTION IS … in Africa and in particular in African leaders. Any attempt to serve Africa must be based in a strong belief and respect in the leaders of Africa in being able to lead and solve their own problems.
- RELATIONSHIPS FIRST – “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” The basis for service in African is relationships. One must spend time building relationships of mutual trust and respect with African leaders. If you want to serve but don’t know the people you hope to work with and through you are wasting your time – Before you “do something” make sure you know someone – slow down, ask questions, build a friendship then move forward together.
- PARTNERSHIP NEXT. We believe that the conduit for any investment in Africa should be through an existing African organization, ministry and/or church – ideally one in which we have a growing relationships with the leader. Those from outside Africa only waste time and energy as they seek to create their own enterprise – it is far better and more productive to find a partner – one who is already accomplishing much without you – moving forward and making a difference. You can them come along, build relationships and help increase their effectiveness by helping them accomplish their goals and visions.
- GO TOMORROW – but go wisely – Nothing is better than actually getting your feet on the ground and understanding what is going on in the place/city/region/country you desire to serve. That’s why we have provide a list of organizations by country and area of ministry on this site. Investigate these ministries – be in touch with them – go for two weeks and check them out – see if you might find a leader and their work that you believe in and could partner with.
