WAAW Foundation Scholarships

  • The Working to Advance Science and Technology Education for African Women (WAAW) Foundation is an international non-profit organization that seeks to increase the number of African women entering science and technology fields. It empowers African women to become impactful leaders who benefit Africa through experiential STEM education.
  • This Foundation aims to empower African women and girls to become transformative leaders through STEM Education, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship training who are equipped to make an impact on the world.
  • WAAW aims to increase the number of African women in STEM by 10% by the year 2025 and to build female technology innovators who will in turn create 10,000 jobs to impact their communities.

Scholarship Overview

  • The WAAW Foundation Scholarship gives financial support to academically promising female African students who are currently enrolled as full-time students in a STEM-related discipline in an African college or university.
  • Applicants for this scholarship should demonstrate financial need and have the passion and drive to participate in the development of the African continent.
  • Recipients will then be required to give back to the community and start a STEM Outreach Chapter at their university.

  • Women from African countries are encouraged to apply.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To qualify for this scholarship, you must:

  • be a female student of African origin who lives and studies in Africa;
  • be studying a STEM-related course in a college or university in Africa;
  • be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program;
  • be in the first or second year of study, or in the third year of a five-year course in a University;
  • be able to demonstrate financial need;
  • have an excellent academic record;
  • be below the age of 32;
  • have a record of volunteering, leadership, and community service.

How do I Apply – Next Steps

  • Applicants must complete all sections of the WAAW scholarship form and submit all the required documents by the deadline.
  • The application should be completed online.

Required Documents

  • A correctly filled application form submitted online
  • 2 reference letters submitted by your referees, one from a professor from your institution of study and the other from an academic supervisor/advisor or mentor, emailed directly to the Foundation.
  • One signed and sealed copy of your current transcript from your University.
  • One scanned copy of your school ID card.
