Scholarships FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Africa Educational Trust

• SISED – Somali Integrated Secondary Educational Development. A programme which supports secondary schools and secondary teacher training. It is providing new classrooms, textbooks and equipment and teaching materials as well as training secondary school teachers

Ambassadors Girls’ Scholarship Program (AGSP)

• The program objective is to ensure that girls from poor families in four administrative regions of Somaliland are able to attend primary school and receive mentoring and HIV/AIDS awareness training. The program focuses on the more impoverished rural school districts and is implemented by CARE in cooperation with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Schools Community Education Committees (CECs). AGSP sponsored 400 girls in 19 primary schools in Somaliland during the 2005-2006 school year. Complete scholarship packages composed of school fees, uniforms, books, and toiletries were provided to 200 girls, and an additional 200 girls received toiletries.

African Virtual University – Somali Women Scholarships

• The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the African Virtual University (AVU) are working to make huge strives in the education of Somali women. They realize that only through education can real change happen and can an effective government take hold. Cover a Somali women’s full tuition and her course materials for a one year training program. Helps provide women with a variety of skills ranging from medicine to communication business and help them create a new stable Somalia.

What does the scholarship cover?

The AU EGL scholarship covers all billable AU expenses

• full tuition,
• room and board
• for one international student who will need a visa (preferably an F-1 or J-1 student visa) to study in the United States.

• It is renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study, based on continued satisfactory academic performance.
