As much as I love Michaelhouse recent Hilton College news states that an outstanding matriculant has be awarded a scholarship at the world renowned Caltech, California Institute of Technology. This must be an amazing achievment ffor both the matriculant and the school.

  27. MD says

    I agree with Bjorn,

I would put Michaelhouse and Kearsney College on the list. I am a matriculant of Kearsney and I have to say my son is going to Kearsney or michaelhouse, I’m torn between the two. Because of loyalty and patriotism I will send him to Kearsney. My adopted son will go to Michaelhouse though.

Hilton? Not so much. A few of my friends are Hilton old boys and I don’t feel it.

  29. Richan says

    December 9, 2011 at 3:42 pm

Bjorne, Thanks for your honesty, but i have hilton’s old boys do remarkable things that display true gentlemanship. But I believe you. Both schools are remarkably brilliant, and boys from Hilton are friends with boys from michaelhouse. 🙂

  30. Bjorn says

    December 8, 2011 at 10:00 am

Richan, no dew offence to you or anyone who agrees with your opinion and most of all Hilton College scholars but in my personal opinion Hilton does, judging by my understanding of the old boys of whom I know from Hilton College, seem to produce gentlemen who tend to act like they are better than other people because they attended Hilton College. In my opinion Michaelhouse seem, judging by my understanding of the old boys of whom I know from Michaelhouse, to produce gentlemen of understanding, humblness and respect. The notable old boys from both Michaelhouse and Hilton College are both great in number and have done good to the world. So I am not stating that Hilton College is bad in anyway or that the current Hilton College scholars will turn out un-gentleman like, I am just stating that the Michaelhouse old boys that I know appear to be more gentle-men like.

I hope that you read this and understand that I am not, in anyway, trying to offend you or anyone else.

  31. Richan says

    November 27, 2011 at 7:16 am

GO HILTON !!! Most people look at michaelhouse because they are focused on making a name in public, Hilton College has been the best private and secondary school in South-Africa. Their sporting facilities are the best, their teaching and learning areas the the finest in SA. They have stayed noble and humble, producing excellence beyond expectation. Having a all round approach toward education and physical stimulation. But hey……every schools goal the same, to educate the youth of south-Africa and the world.

    Greys College
    Durban Boys High School
    Maritzburg College
    Bishops Diocesan College
    Glenwood High School
    Pretoria High School

Look people I dont know what is urls problems but I say Westville boys has most recently been the best in kzn at least with their academics well known to be the best in kzn, 6 SA schools rugby players in past 7 years! But on the long term DHS has also been up there with a state of the art cricket centre(whicch has been rented by CSA a lot) drama plays theatre sport academies , world class library, 2 gyms and on average a 99% pass rate in matric. A couple successful people from DHS have been Hashim Amla, Lanse Klusener, Ali Hargreaves, BJ Botha etc!!

Thank-you Handz Of God. I am going to attend Michaelhouse. It must be, judging by your comment, as good a school as thry say it to be. I would like to ad that Hilton is now R173 000 p.a. That is outrageous! How much can an education cost? Any way Michaelhouse and Kearsney are better than Hilton. But Michaelhouse is better than Kearsney!

  47. Bjorn says

Michaelhouse is the best school in SA. It has the education you can possilby get in SA. Hilton is just full of rich people snobs who are just there because of money. Michaelhouse is good, although it may be nearly as expensive as Hilton,R158 240 p.a, it has good people in there and who ever come out of there are gentlemen and know how to go on about life. Kearsney is also very good. They are also not full of rich snobs. They are also disiplined and well mannered when they leave school. There boarding prices may also be high, R135 800, they, like Michaelhouse are a good school. Not that I’m saying the schools in this top ten are bad just that Michaelhouse and kearsney should be there.

    excuse me?

this site is for BEST academic institutions in south africa.
not the richest or most financial secured or even the one with the best manicured fields. I’m a realist.
sure you pay 100 grand to go to the top private schools but it makes no difference if the product of that school is useless to society 🙂 pearson highschool in summerstrand port elizabeth. not olny hs the best cultural and academic curriculum in s.a. the quality of young leaders produced here far surpasses any spoiled rich kid from micheal or hilton or even woodridge

i’m in matric and can see this. our class of 2010 has a 4.8 A’s aggregate. this means each student has on average 4.8 A’s on their reports. fare above the 0.7 national average and the 2.3 public model c schools average. furthur more ignorant people… this is a big school with grades of 160 or more… so to achieve this in total… 189 mulipied 4.8 times… exactly. . . far beyond anyones reach. we might be media crazy or popular but pearsonites work hard and are entelligent… hence you all work for us on day 🙂

    much love*
